Michigan district chair, brought greetings from Workmen's Circle locally and nationally. Elektra's bat mitzvah presentation was titled 'Anti-Semitism in English Literature." For her Yiddish compo- nent, she recited Shylock's speech from Shakespeare's The Merchant of Venice, which had been translated into Yiddish by Rosalie Beck, Yiddish teacher. Elektra is an eighth grader at Oakland Steiner School in Avon Township. Her interests include read- ing, art, guitar, acting, history and poli- tics, especially progressive social-justice issues. For her mitzvah project, Elektra worked at the Detroit Soup Kitchen and plans to continue doing so as she found the work meaningful and rewarding. Cory Alan Richards will be called to the Torah as a bar mitzvah on Saturday, Oct. 30, at Temple Beth El. He is the son of Susan and Charles Richards and the brother of Mark and Tammy, Jodi and Eric and Adam. His proud grandparents are Florence Fried- man and Nathalie - Benyas. He is also the grandchild of the late Joseph Plotnick and Mort Benyas. Cory's mitzvah projects included helping keep the temple clean and assisting elderly members as needed. He enjoys visiting with his grandmother at Franklin Club Apartments and kibitz- ing with her friends. Cory attends Warner Middle School in Farmington Hills and enjoys music, dancing, computers, baseball and foot- ball. He plays a mean game of golf to a 20 handicap. Cory will stand up at his sister's wedding at Temple Beth El two weeks after his bar mitzvah. Rachel Robinson will be called to the Torah as a bat mitzvah on Friday, Oct. 29, at Temple Israel. She is the daughter of Jack and Gigi Robinson and the sister of Jennifer. Rachel's proud grandmother is Blanche Tuchman. Rachel is an honor student at Abbott Middle School in West Bloomfield. She plays clarinet in the school band and is on the girls bas- ketball team. She enjoys being with friends and going to Camp Tamarack. Rachel's mitzvah project was volunteer- ing at Temple Israel.
