Lyons' Memory
The Greater Michigan Region of the
Jewish National Fund will honor the
legacy of the Rev. James R. Lyons
with the Keter Shem Tov (Crown of
Good Name) Award at a dinner
Monday, Nov. 8, at Congregation
Shaarey Zedek. The evening begins
with cocktails at 6.
Rev. Lyons was the founder and
executive director of the Ecumenical
Institute for Jewish-Christian
Studies. He also was a member of
the executive board of the National
Christian leadership Council for
Israel.
An advocate for the State of Israel,
its land and people, he lectured in
churches, synagogues and universi-
ties, and to interfaith groups, on
issues relating to post-Auschwitz
Christian theology, the Shoah, Israel
and Christian-Jewish relations. As it
said on the gold pin he always wore
on his lapel, zachor, Hebrew for
remember"
Lyons, who suffered from dia-
betes, died in 1998.
Proceeds from the event will go
toward an Israeli forestation project
bearing his name. Son David and
wife Christine will accept the award.
A joint JNF/Ecumenical Institute
Mission to Israel to dedicate this pro-
ject is anticipated in the coming year.

Veterans' Day
Ceremonies
The Michigan Jewish War Veterans
and Ladies Auxiliary will take part in
two ceremonies Sunday, Oct. 31, in
recognition of Veterans' Day.
State Commander Robert
Feldman will head a delegation join-
ing the Balfour Branch of the Royal
Canadian Legion in Windsor,
Ontario, commanded by Izzy Sigal.
Chief of Staff Milton Klein's
group will join other veteran organi-
zations in a wreath-laying ceremony
at Grace United Church of Christ
with Pastor Henry Reinwald.
