Federation At
Book Fair

Several departments and groups of the
Jewish Federation of Metropolitan
Detroit will sponsor authors at the
Jewish Community Center Book Fair.
Avenues, a group offering educational,
social and cultural options for those aged
30-50, and the Cardozo Law Society, are
co-sponsoring author Howard Fast 8
p.m. Sunday, Nov. 7, at the D. Dan and
Betty Kahn Building in West
Bloomfield. A reception with the author
is set for 7. Fast has written 40 novels;
his latest, Redemption dabbles in the
world of suspense fiction.
The Young Adult Division is co-spon-
soring author Nathan Englander at Book
Fair 8 p.m. Tuesday, Nov. 9, at the Kahn
Building. Englander, 28, will discuss For
the Relief of Unbearable Urges, a collec-
tion of stories steeped in Jewish history
and customs of Orthodox life.
Author Hope Edelman's talk is being
co-sponsored by the Commission on
Jewish Eldercare Services (COJES), in
cooperation with the Jewish Home and
ing Services' LeVine Institute on
Aging. She will discuss Mother of My
Mother: The Intricate Bond Between
Generations, examining the relationship
between grandmothers, mothers and
daughters, 6:30 p.m. Thursday, Nov. 11,
at the Kahn Building.

AJE Hosts
Dinner, Worksho

The Agency for Jewish
Education and the
Alliance for Jewish
Education are hosting a
dinner-workshop,
"Transformational
Adult Education: The
Art and Science of
Rabbi Elyse
Andragogy." Open to
Goldstein
Jewish educators of
adults and interested students, the event
is 6 p.m. Tuesday, Nov. 9, at the Jimmy
Prentis Morris. Building of the Jewish
Community Center in Oak Park.
Presenter is Rabbi Elyse Goldstein,
director of Kolel: A Centre for Liberal
Jewish Learning, the national community
adult education institute of the Canadian
Council for Reform Judaism. Participants
are invited to remain for Rabbi
Goldstein's Book Fair lecture, "ReVisions:
Seeing Torah Through a Feminist Lens,"
which will begin at 8 p.m.
Cost to attend the dinner-workshop
is $8. To register, call Haviva Jacobs at
