will be bat mitzvah
at Temple Emanu-
El on Saturday,
Oct. 16. Rabbi
Joseph Klein and
Cantor Norman
Rose will lead the
services.
Participating in the
ceremony will be parents Mark and
Larissa Shain and brother Josh.
Proud grandparents are Abram and
Sophia Shain of Oak Park and
Semion and Elvira Rachlis of
Chicago. Proud great-grandmother
Frieda Kuriniec of Hallandale, Fla.,
also will attend.
Jackie is an honor student in the
eighth grade at O.E. Dunckel
Middle School in Farmington Hills.
In her spare time, she likes to play
the violin, read, dance and spend
time with her friends. Her mitzvah
projects included working at Temple
Emanu-El's nursery school and sum-
mer camp and at the American
Diabetes Association.
Stephen Alexander Silk will cele-
brate his bar mitzvah at Temple
Beth El on
Saturday, Oct. 16.
Stephen is the
son of Spencer Silk
and Sherry Silk and
brother of
Stephanie. He is
the grandson of
Leonard and
Dorothy Silk,
George and Debbie
Smith and the late Pauline Smith.
Stephen is a student at
Bloomfield Hills Middle School,
where he participates in soccer and
band. His favorite after-school activ-
ities are playing video games, visit-
ing the Internet and playing the
piano. For his bar mitzvah project,
he participated as a COTS volun-
teer.
Rachel Jennifer Taubman will cele-
brate her bat mitzvah at Temple
Israel on Saturday, Oct. 16. She is
the daughter of
Gale Taubman and
Richard Taubman
and sister of
Danielle. Excited
grandparents are
Lola and Samuel
Taubman and
Sofia Tabak. She is
also the grandchild
of the late Samuel Nosanchuk.
As part of her mitzvah projects,
she volunteered at a nursery and
assisted in the Temple Israel Media
Center as well as participating in the
temple's madricha program. On the
honor roll at O.E. Dunckel Middle
School in Farmington Hills, Rachel
is interested in art.
Charles Jason (C.J.) Weingarden
will be called to the Torah as a bar
mitzvah on Saturday, Oct. 16, at
Adat Shalom
Synagogue. Friends
and relatives from
all over the United
States will help cel-
ebrate.
C.J. is the son of
Karen and Terry
Weingarden and
the brother of Eric.
Proud grandparents
are Sol and Muriel Hoberman and
Harry Weingarden. He is also the
grandson of the late Estelle
Weingarden.
C.J. is an eighth-grade honor stu-
dent at Abbott Middle School in
West Bloomfield, where he plays
violin in the school chamber orches-
tra. He also enjoys all sports, espe-
cially soccer.
C.J.'s mitzvah project was volun-
teering at Yad Ezra, and he had the
honor of helping out one week after
the Yom Kippur holiday. He also
made a contribution there in honor
of his bar mitzvah.
Michael Benjamin Weingarten of
Grosse Pointe Woods will observe
his bar mitzvah
with the Grosse
Pointe Jewish
Council at the
Grosse Pointe
United Church on
Saturday, Oct. 16.
Rabbi Nicholas
Behrmann will lead
the service along
with cantorial
soloist Brian Frank.
Participating in the service will be
Michael's parents, Dr. Jeffrey and
Janet Weingarten, sister Jennifer and
brother Matthew. Attending will be
Michael's grandparents Ralph and
Helen Benaroya of Park Forest, Ill.,
and Robert and Marlene Weingarten
of Des Plaines, 111.
Michael is an honor student at
Parcells Middle School in Grosse
Pointe and attends the Grosse Pointe
Jewish Council religious school. He
