"Give our children a chance to be
heard in the battle to protect them
and us from gun violence," said
Robert Kaplan of Workmen's
Circle/Arbeter Ring in New York
City.
That message is behind the
Children's March organized for
Thursday, Oct. 28, by Workmen's
Circle, a secular national Jewish orga-
nization that offers activities further-
ing Jewish culture and social and eco-
nomic justice. The Michigan District
of Workmen's Circle has offices and a
Sunday School in Oak Park.
An expected 1,000 children,
approximately ages 7-13, will hold
hands as they walk to the Capitol in
Washington, D.C., bringing with
them the letters of 100,000 other
children across the nation, written to
tell America, "Stop shooting at us."
Delegations of children will meet
with senators and representatives to
demand that they do something
about the proliferation of handguns
and assault weapons.
If unable to join the march,
Workmen's Circle requests that chil-
dren, grandchildren and other young
students and friends write a letter
addressed to their senator or represen-
tative or simply addressed "My
Senator" or "My Congress person."
The children should be encouraged
to express how they feel about living
in a society where they may be shot at
— randomly, accidentally or inten-
tionally — at any time and how that
makes them feel: fear, panic, sadness,
anger.
Letters written by children should
be sent to:
Children's March for Gun Control
c/o The Workmen's Circle

45 East 33rd Street
New York, NY 10016
Or send letters via e-mail to:
RAK@circle.org

For information, contact Karen
Rosenstein at the local Workmen's
Circle, (248) 545-0985, or Bob
Kaplan at national Workmen's Circle,

TV Sp ecial Features Detroiters

Channel 7 will air a documentary
produced by the Jewish Theological
Seminary 4:30-5:30 a.m. Saturday,
Oct. 16.
Rabbi Herbert Yoskowitz of Adat
Shalom Synagogue and Detroit JTS
rabbinical student Marcia Tilchin
have roles in the program "Grateful,
Am I, To You: The Morning Ritual
Prayer and What It Means to
Contemporary Jews Today." The title
is taken from the English translation
of the opening liturgical phrase Mode
ani Ifiznecha in Shachrit, the morning
prayer liturgy.
Filmed in New York at the JTS

Women's League for Conservative
Judaism chapel, the show provides a
portrait of communal prayer enriched
by cantorial melodies and personal devo-
tion. Interviews with worshippers offer
insights into how prayer has trans-
formed their relationships at home, at
work and in their communities.
JTS and the Interfaith Broadcasting
Commission produce a series of annual
liturgical specials designed to strengthen
awareness of Judeo-Christian principles,
demonstrate the ways in which faith can
be expressed and inspire individuals to
explore ways in which faith can enrich
their lives.
