The kick-off lecture takes place 7:30-9 p.m. Sunday, Oct. 17, when Neil Alexander Neil Alexander tells "What is Klezmer?" He will trace the develop- ment of klezmer music utilizing exam- ples through live performance and recordings. Alexander founded and directed the Klezmer Fusion Band based in Ann Arbor in 1993 and has been fea- tured vocalist with the New Shtetl Band, based in Albuquerque, N.M. The remaining speakers and topics are as follows: Nov. 14, Todd M. Endelman, William Haber Professor of modern Jewish history at the University of Michigan, on "New Religions for Jewish People (1750-1950)"; Jan. 9, Shelley Perlove, professor of art history at the University of Michigan-Dearborn, on "Rembrandt and the Nazis"; Feb. 27, Anita Norich, associate UM professor of English and Judaic studies, on "American Jewish Culture During the Holocaust"; May 21, Enoch Brater, UM professor of English and Theater, on "The Merchant of Venice and Shakespeare's Jewish Problem." Linda Hayman Assumes Post Linda Hayman of Bloomfield Hills has been appointed the national Golda Meir Club chair for the Women's Division of State of Israel Bonds.
