well as Mikes brother's wife, Lorraine, and his two nieces, Brenda and Robyn Kay." Spare Time: This busy mother THE :STARS insists she has some. In the morning, Laura takes the family's puppy, Kippy, for a walk. She loves hanging out with longtime best pals Lynn Desen- berg, Julie Kohlenberg and Lesley On Friday, she runs Chodak. errands and spends an hour or so at the store You're F ired, where she has created a pasta bowl and a Kiddush cup. Finding Couple Time: Michael and Laura make it a point to spend time alone together. "We go out on a date" once a week, Laura says. "We'll have dinner or go to a movie." There are also four, company-paid trips (each last- ing about a week) every year, for employees and their spouses. This year's trips, she says, are Tuc- son, Paris, Alaska and Australia." When Michael and Laura are away, the children's favorite baby sitter, Rachel, oversees everything. "She's a goddess," Laura states. What Mom is Really Like: Laura admits, "I'm kind of kooky." As she's bathing the children, she likes to make up her own lyrics to the classic song, "Wipe Out." "I'll sing, 'Wash your armpits, wash your armpits; then your back, wash your back...' She also does cartwheels for the little ones when she leaves the day care, and says, "I have to remind myself that I'm almost 40." When it comes to discipline, Laura says she does a lot of the classic 1, 2, 3 countdown — as in, "I'm going to count to three, and if that mess isn't picked up I'm going to be furious: 1, 2, 3 ..." "I've done screaming, too. It's totally ineffective, as are time outs. I'll bribe and threaten — all those things you're not supposed to do.' Both parents advocate positive disci- pline, and make frequent use of the family's famous Sticker Chart. Children receive a mark for each example of good behavior. After so many marks, the child gets a small treat. To Sum It Up: Laura says, "I'm really lucky. I do not have one complaint in life." ❑ What children dream, we help them achieve.
