elebrate a truly unique

As to his
future, Rabbi
Spectre said,
"There are brands
in the fire." No
matter what deci-
sions he makes
while "exploring
very promising sit-
uations," he says
he will be Rabbi
Rabbi
Emeritus of Adat
Efry Spectre
Shalom "forever."
Under his lead-
ership, the synagogue has become
strongly involved in support of the
Jewish Theological Seminary and the
United Synagogue of Conservative
Judaism and, in Israel, the Masorti
(Conservative) movement.
Since becoming a rabbi in 1963,
Rabbi Spectre says he has vigorously
supported the cause of Jews in the for-
mer Soviet Union.
He's well known for his musical
skill. For many years, he created musi-
cal programs for Camp Ramah and
Hadassah published a musical cantata
that he scored. He earned a Detroit
Emmy nomination in the religious
programming category for music he
created for the High Holidays based
on a folktale.
Locally, Rabbi Spectre has been a
spokesman for Jewish concerns and
served on various boards, including
those of the Jewish National Fund,
Hillel Day School of Metropolitan
Detroit and the Midrasha College of
Jewish Education.
Rabbi Nevins will continue to work
alongside Rabbi Herbert Yoskowitz,
who joined the staff in July 1998
when Adat Shalom merged with
Congregation Beth Achim.
"Rabbi Spectre will continue to
give wonderful service to the Jewish
community, in a new capacity. He is a
superb rabbi, a wonderful colleague
and a friend," Rabbi Yoskowitz says,
adding, "I look forward to working
with Rabbi Nevins as he serves Adat
Shalom and the general community in
a way that I know will make him
shine, and all of us shine."
"I am honored and thrilled about
the new development," says Rabbi
Nevins. "I think that this is a wonder-
ful shidach — my connection with
Adat Shalom.
"I am privileged to work with very
talented clergy and staff, and I am
grateful to Rabbi Spectre for decades
of leadership in the congregation and
the community. I am excited to take
on this new challenge." 7
