elia Priest, 88, has
been unable to
care for herself
since suffering a
stroke last year. Her 66-
year-old retired son,
Seymour, shares her small
Southfield apartment and
helps as much as he can,
but says living on Social
Security limits what care
they can afford.

C

Blue Cross-Blue Shield
assistance was only a tempo-
rary fix. Just before the
insurance coverage ran out,
they learned of help avail-
able from Jewish Family
Service, a local agency that
receives funding from the
Jewish Federation of
Metropolitan Detroit.
Now, a respite worker
comes to their apartment
three times a week to bathe
and care for Celia Priest, and
a personal caregiver/home-
maker cleans the house every
two weeks at no charge.
