ful Rosina

from Don
Bartolo, who wants
her for himself.

Rosina is Vivica

mances. She is a
young Alaskan
mezzo-soprano who
sang the role at the
New York
Metropolitan Opera.
Southern California
native Earle
Patriarco will be
her Figaro. A
baritone, he has
sung the role with
the Metropolitan
Opera and the
San Francisco
Opera.
Zheng Cao

the role of
Rosina and
Marian Pop will

Dorothy Danner directs Barber, while
maestro Stewart Robertson conducts
the orchestra.
MOT subscribers get dibs on the
best seats for the Detroit premiere of

In 1997,
Bocelli ran sec-
ond only to the
Spice Girls glob-
ally in albums
sold. In 1998,
three of his CDs
went platinum.
He completed a
highly successful
11-city stadium
concert tour of
North America
earlier this year; a
new CD of clas-
sical sacred pieces
is due this fall, followed by an autobi-
ography next year.
In Werther, Bocelli plays a melan-
choly young man who is attracted to a
woman he cannot have. His leading
lady, Charlotte, is another big star in
the opera world, mezzo-soprano
Denyce Graves, who has sung the title
roles in Carmen and Samson and
Delilah. They will appear in all six
performances. Li
