Segal is the immediate past President of the Schechter Institute of Jewish Studies - the academic and educational center of the Masorti-Conservative Movement in Israel. Affiliated with The Jewish Theological Seminary, Schechter offers a wide range of Masters and Doctoral Programs through its School of Jewish Studies, the School for Jewish Education and the Rabbinical School for the Masorti Movement in Israel. In addition, and among other educational endeavors geared to reach the multi-cultured population in Israel, Schechter operates the TALI Education Fund which enriches Jewish education and provides pedagogic support in Israel's secular public school system from kindergarten to secondary school. In 1998 this rapidly expanding program encompassed 12,000 students, offering traditional Jewish learning and experience in a tolerant, non- coercive atmosphere. It is the only option of its kind in Israel. Rabbi Segal was ordained at The Jewish Theological Seminary in 1969 and later served as a congregational rabbi in Palo Alto, CA. Since making aliyah in 1973, he has been involved in the development of various educational projects, as well as the growth of the Masorti Movement. Rabbi Segal was previously Director of the Ramah Programs and is past Chairman of the Masorti Movement. For many years he served on the Expanded Executive of the World Zionist Organization.
