Mr. Meyers is survived by his wife,
Lillian Meyers; son and daughter-in-law
Stuart and Rebecca Meyers of Davis, Calif.;
daughter Beverley Meyers of San Francisco;
grandchildren Alex and Matthew Meyers;
sister and brother-in-law Evelyne and Carl
Karbel of Southfield; sisters-in-law and
brothers-in-law Eleanor Meyers, Sol and
Lillian Atkins and Norman and Charlotte
Atkins.
He was the dear brother of the late Dr.
Edward Meyers.
Interment was at Clover Hill Park
Cemetery. Contributions may be made to a
charity of one's choice. Arrangements by Ira
Kaufman Chapel.

PHILIP S.
NEEDLE, 80, of

Southfield, died Sept.
23.
Mr. Needle was an
executive at Federal
Department Stores
for 37 years as well as
a former vice presi-
dent and district
manager. He was a
member of
Philip Needle
Congregation Shaarey
Zedek, a past presi-
dent and board member of the Henry
Morganthau Lodge of B'nai B'rith and a
member of the Jewish War Veterans.
Mr. Needle was a staff sergeant in the
Air Force during World War II. A decorat-
ed veteran, he received the Purple Heart.
He was very active in the civil rights
movement and was recognized by the
NAACP for his encouragement in the pro-
motion of minorities at Federal's when he
insisted on the use of black mannequins for
store frontage displays. His motto in busi-
ness was, "Customers to be treated with
respect, dignity and equally."
Mr. Needle is survived by his wife of 52
years, Blanche Needle; son and daughter-in-
law Ernest and Sandy Needle of Southfield;
daughter and son-in-law Janice and
Michael Lachman of Farmington Hills;
grandchildren Dori and Daniel Needle and
Scott and Audra Lachman; brother-in-law
Dr. Ruben Kurnetz.
He was the loving son of the late Zelig
and the late Rachel Rose Needle and the
dear brother of the late Harry Needle and
the late Jenny Needle Goodman.
Interment was at Clover Hill Park
Cemetery. Contributions may be made to
the Philip S. Needle BBYO Scholarship
Fund, 6600 Maple Rd., West Bloomfield,
MI 48322 or a charity of one's choice.

MURIEL RISBERG, 81, of Wayne, died

Sept. 25.
She is survived by her son and daughter-
in-law, Joel and Patricia Risberg of Wayne;
brothers and sisters-in-law Jerome and
Marion Kopelman of Farmington, Arthur

and Rose Kopelman of Lauderhill, Fla.; sis-
ter Syvia Epstein of Silver Spring, Md.
Muriel was the beloved wife of the late
Leonard Risberg.
Graveside services were at Adat Shalom
Memorial Park. Contributions may be
made to a charity of one's choice.
Arrangements by Dorfman Funeral

PARALEE SHAPIRO, 77, of Pikesville,
Md., died Sept. 20. Ms. Shapiro was a
bookkeeper.
She is survived by her daughter and son-
in-law, Rona and Dr. Frank Kosmakos; son
and daughter-in-law Jeffrey and Tomasa
Shapiro; grandchildren Stefanie Dana
Kosmakos and Joshua Aaron Eugene
Shapiro; brothers and sisters-in-law William
and June Poplack of Birmingham, Richard
and Denise Poplack of Shelby Township.
Interment was at Machpelah Cemetery.

SOFYA SHIBOYLIS, 93, of Southfield,

died Sept. 22.
She is survived by her son and daughter-
in-law, Yefim and Tatyana Shiboylis of Oak
Park; sister Vera and Konstantin Kogan of
New York; granddaughter Lana Ostrovsky;
great-grandchildren Severina, Alex.
Services and interment were at Hebrew
Memorial Park. Arrangements by Hebrew
Memorial Chapel.

PAULA B. SIMON, 70, of Alma, died

Sept. 26.
Mrs. Simon was a member of Hadassah,
B'nai B'rith Women and was a founding
member of Temple Benjamin in Mt.
Pleasant. She volunteered in numerous civic
and charitable organizations.
She was born in Flint and grew up in
Lansing. She studied interior design at
Michigan State University.
Mrs. Simon is survived by her husband
of 49 years, Joseph; children David and
Betty, Roger and Randi, Sharon and Joe
Wenzl; mother Sally Baron; brother Don
(Anita); grandchildren Lindsay and Jordan
Simon, Marc, Stephen and Nora Simon,
Megan and Michael Wenzl.
Interment in Lansing.

SHIRLEY ALPERN YOUNG, 82, of

Bloomfield Hills, died Sept. 22.
Ms. Young is survived by her daughters
and son-in-law, Jennifer and James Cohen
of West Bloomfield, Loren Yagoda of
Scottsdale, Ariz.; grandchildren John
Cohen, Katherine Cohen, Jobie Summer,
Jonathan and Jill Summer, Jeremia Kaplan;
sister Marise Levy of Franklin.
She was the dear sister of the late Robert
Alpern and the late Gordon Alpern.
Interment was at Machpelah
Cemetery. In lieu of a contribution, the
family requests a random act of kindness
to anyone. Arrangements by Ira Kaufman
Chapel.
