ing," says Rabinovitz, whose work
has been displayed at the
Pennsylvania Academy of Fine Arts
in Philadelphia, Art Borders Gallery
in Minneapolis and the Cranbrook
Academy of Art in Bloomfield Hills.
His furniture was shown for a num-
ber of years at the Cilla Scott
Gallery in Royal Oak.
Rabinovitz, who grew up in
Philadelphia, received a bachelor's
degree in industrial design from the
Philadelphia College of Art in 1982
and has worked for many years as a
design consultant in various offices
around the country. His projects have
concentrated on office furniture and
accessories, audio devices and
advanced technology products.
Tired of the commercial environ-
ment, Rabinovitz decided to return to
school in 1990 and chose the
Cranbrook Academy of Art, where he
earned his master's degree from the
Department of Design in 1992.

Rabinovitz, who counts a meditation
table and four chairs among his
favorite pieces. He believes the sand
on top of the table glass transcends
the everyday as it allows people to
move their hands through the parti-
cles.
"A lot of my work is about stimu-
lating the senses," says the teacher-
artist, "I see the world as a series of
lines, and in my home, I keep some of
my wood constructions, paintings and
drawings. I like the simplicity shown
in the modern styles of the '50s, '60s
and '70s."
Rabinovitz, who was raised in a
Reform household and remains single,
lives in Berkley. He has set up a studio
in his garage, where he continues to
apply his artistry to functional furni-
ture design.
He hopes one day to design and
produce his own furniture line —
