Since 1948, when 90 families applied for the first 30 places in the nursery school, it has "served as a model for integrated Judaic and secular schools," says Rabbi Irwin Groner. Established at a time when "the idea of a nursery school was not prevalent," he says the school has become "a very special place in the educational land- scape of our communi- ty. Weintraub saw the evening as "a warm, friendly, freilich atmos- phere of reminiscing" by students and staff, whom she described as enduring in their care and love of children.
