want to offer

MASTER
DEALER

Rut INU

62,

a local entrepre-
neur, philan-
thropist and
communal leader
whose three-year
ambassadorship
David Hermelin
began in January
1998, commutes
between Oslo and Detroit for treat-
ment.
He related how a friend in his 90s
talks to him every couple of weeks.
You got to think positive is the con-
stant message from the man, who is
not a cancer patient.
"He's just a man who's lived his life
and faced challenges," Hermelin said.
"(He) believes that you take control of
your life and that a positive mental
attitude helps you move forward."
From the medical side, Hermelin's
doctor, Dr. Mark Rosenblum, who
chairs Ford's Department of
Neurosurgery, talked about Hermelin's
treatment and prognosis.
He said following surgery, a dime-
sized wafer containing chemotherapy
drugs was placed along the lining of
where the tumor had been. Radiation
and chemotherapy followed.
"If you saw how he spoke and how
energetic he was, I think that reflects
on how well he's doing," Dr.
Rosenblum said. "We have evidence
that the treatment is working.
"This is a disease that needs some
continued treatment, and we can hope
and anticipate that he can continue to
do well."
