"It seemed like a natural progres-
sion for me because I began helping
clients with other details relating to
parties and enjoyed that very much,"
Ball says. "I started expanding through
client referrals."
Referrals have resulted in a series of
parties for the family of industrialist Max
Fisher, whose 90th birthday celebration
was held last year at the Ritz-Carlton. It
was preceded the evening before with a
novel out-of-towners' get-together
arranged at the Detroit Zoo.
"My daughters and I use Gail con-
stantly because she watches every
detail," says Max Fisher's wife,
Marjorie, who was very mindful of
amenities extended to visiting digni-
taries, including former Presidents
Ford and Bush, Barbara Bush, Henry
Kissinger and Newt Gingrich.
"If there ever is any kind of a prob-
lem, we never know because Gail takes
care of everything. I don't have to do a
thing. She stays after the rest of us go
),
home and wraps it all up properly.
Fisher's daughter, Julie Cummings, is a
volunteer working on the Symphony
gala and has used Ball's expertise for
personal parties, including her son's
wedding.
"For the Symphony, Gail's working
with diverse people — volunteers,
patrons, staff and vendors — and gets
along with all of them," Cummings says.
When Gail Ball takes on a new
event, she meets with clients and goes
through a series of checklists to make
sure her ideas suit their interests and
personalities.
"Everyone has a vision of how they
