In mid-July, Cantor Vieder, who
has been using several of Cantor
Klein's works for solo voice for several
years, began rehearsing his 10-member
men's choir for the High Holidays.
Among the melodies its members will
sing on Sunday, Sept. 19 — Kol Nidre
night — is an arrangement by Cantor
Klein of the prayer leading to Selichot,
the prayers of penitence. It will be a
debut for the Adat Shalom choir.
"He was very musical, very talent-
ed," Cantor Vieder said. "He deserves
a tribute.
At Beth Abraham Hillel Moses, lay
cantor Ronn Nadis will lead the High
Holiday services for his second year.
Nadis is one of many lay cantors trained
by Cantor Klein, and, just like last year,
he will incorporate his teacher's music in
the celebrations for 5760.
"It's actually a significant percentage
of the service," Nadis said, singling out
the "Hineni," which is recited by the
cantor before the Musaf (additional
prayer service on holiday mornings) on
both Rosh HaShana and Yom Kippur,
and the Kaddish, the memorial prayer,
Nadis, who shared the pulpit with
Cantor Klein at B'nai Moshe for four
years, described his mentor's composi-
tional style as "spiritual, sophisticated
and yet uncomplicated."
"It's easy for the congregation to
learn and to join in, to sing along
with, he said. "His music was a hall-
mark of his tenure as cantor. I'm
proud to let it live on." 1
