"I was able to tell them the exact spot of the wreckage, and that's where they found Dean's body." Margolis, who believes in reincar- nation and is certain she's had other lives, makes it clear she is not a for- tuneteller. Instead, she makes predic- tions from thoughts put into her head via spirits," she says. And, Margolis is quick to point out, her psychic abili- ties do not interfere with her Judaism. "The Bible tells of how the angels protected the firstborn sons of the Jews at Passover," says Margolis, whose grandfather Louis, was one of the founders of Temple Israel. "My reli- gion is very important to me, and I am especially interested in Kabbalah — Jewish mysticism. "I have talked to various rabbis and some have the same belief as I do," she says. To promote her book, Margolis will be traveling around the country. Although the dates have not been con- firmed, within the next couple of weeks she is due to appear on Larry King Live, Entertainment Tonight, the CBS Morning Show and The Gossip Show on the E! Entertainment Network. "I believe that we are all on this earth for a purpose," says Margolis, "and mine, I am convinced, is to alle- viate people's unnecessary fear and worry about dying." 17 Char- Margolis signs copies of Questions from Earth, Answers from Heaven at 7:30 p.m. Monday, Sept. 13, at Barnes and Noble, 6575 Telegraph Road in Bloomfield Township, (248) 540- 4209; and at 7 p.m. Wednesday, Sept. 29, at Walden Books, 13667 Eureka Road in Southgate, (734) 282-4197. In fact, when I was about 3 years old, my father and I went to the gro- cery store, and when we got back, I blurted out, 'Mommy, they cheated us.' My mother looked over the bill and I was right — we were over- charged." But during her school years at Pepper Elementary, Frost Junior High and Oak Park High, Margolis laughs, her psy- chic abilities didn't help her get all the right answers on tests. After high school, she spent two years at a com- munity college and then transferred to Wayne State University, where she earned a degree in secondary education. While in college she also married, but eventually got a divorce. Although she enjoyed teaching, it wasn't her real passion, and she decided to devote her time developing and channeling her psychic abilities. After going with a friend for a read- ing, where the psychic told her she had special abilities of her own, Margolis decided to begin giving professional readings herself. Soon, through word of mouth, a local radio station, WWJ, booked her for a call-in show. The exposure paved the way for regular appearances on Detroit's local weekday morning television show Kelly and Company, which led to national attention. Before long, Margolis became a fre- quent guest on another TV talk show, AM Los Angeles, followed by regular appearances on programs including The View with Barbara Walters, Geraldo with Geraldo Rivera, Regis and Kathie Lee and the Ricki Lake Show. Entertainment Tonight has labeled Margolis "psychic to the stars." Her personal clients have been some of Hollywood's most visible entertainers, including Rosanna Arquette and Miles Davis. Over the years she has warned clients about impending danger. And, she has assisted the police in finding missing persons. "I was called in by the LAPD to find Dean Martin's son, Dean Paul, whose plane was missing," she recalls.
