Farmington Hills, died Aug. 31.
Mrs. Luxenberg was a native
Detroiter, the
only child of
immigrant
parents. After
graduating
from Northern
High School
during the
Depression,
she supported
herself by sell-

Beth Luxenberg
1942 she mar-
ried Jack
Luxenberg and began raising a fami-
ly that grew to five children.
She returned to the workforce in
the 1960s, originally to help pay for
their college, and for 35 years kept
ledgers for Monument Sales Corp.
in Detroit. During the past year,
when her illness prevented her from
driving to the office, she did the
company's books at her kitchen
table.
She never thought it was unusual
to be 81 and still working, so it
bothered her when others made a
fuss about it. Last year, while recu-
perating from a fall, a nursing aide
humored her when she said that she
worked as a bookkeeper.
"He didn't believe me," she said
