ty. We must use this connection to
bring us closer to our own spirituality
and personal growth.
In this new year, 5760, our tern-
ples and synagogues are doing more
than ever to make the services more
personal to each of us. At Temple
Israel, there are a variety of ways in
which each individual can choose to
observe the holidays. On Yom
Kippur, there are study groups that
last from morning until evening for
people who choose to spend the
entire day inside the temple.
The holidays are more meaningful
when shared with the entire family.
Traditional family services for all
members over the age of 13 are held
throughout the day. There are also
children's services both on Rosh

HaShana and Yom Kippur.
In the last few years, Temple Israel
has stressed the importance of the
entire family being together on Rosh
HaShana and Yom Kippur and initi-
ated alternative family services. These
services address many of the lessons
taught during the High Holy Days
and offer explanations for many of
the traditions that take place during
the Days of Awe.
Not only children, but adults as
well, are able to participate in the ser-
vices and ask questions.
Finally, I will be one of Temple
Israel's youth group members to
lead the family alternative services
on Yom Kippur. Through this, I
will have an opportunity to become
in touch with my spirituality on the
High Holy Days by reciting the
prayers, reading the Torah, singing
the familiar songs while helping
others to do the same.
This year, throughout the High
Holy Day rituals, we will have an
opportunity to connect with our reli-
gion, temple or synagogue, and fami-
lies. These are truly the important
aspects of the Days of Awe.
We must take the time to look deep-
er into the meaning of the holidays and
the relationships we share with the peo-
ple around us. Through our traditions
and reflection, the beauty of the Days
of Awe will be evident and the coming
year will be sweeter.
