would sneak out in the middle
and play on the swings. We had
so much fun. It is always nice to
see my friends and spend time
with everyone.
Rachel Charlupski, 14, of
West Bloomfield, says, "Going
into shul and seeing your Jewish
community all together feels real-
ly special."
Another attraction is the deli-
cious food. Kessler used to go "to
my grandmother's house for din-
ner, and we would dip apple
slices in honey and I can remem-
ber exactly how it rnsted."
Jon Lowen, an eighth-grader
at Birmingham's Berkshire Mid-
dle School, also looks forward to
"going to the good dinners." Per-
haps the lack of food during the
Yom Kippur fast is a memory
some teens would not like to
think about, but seemingly it
stands out. Hilary Lubin, 18, of
Farmington Hills, says, "The first
fast sticks out in my mind. It was
really hard at first because I was
nor used to fasting. But I soon
got used to it."
Emily Kaufman, 16, of
Bloomfield Hills, looks forward
to "the good food I am able to
eat for break the fast after starv-
ing all day.
For many young adults, it is
the family time that makes the
High Holy Days so special and
memorable. Daniel Samet, 16, of
Farmington Hills, remembers "all
my family coming over to my
house and all of us having the
grandest of times."
Austin Weisman, 15, a Tem-
ple Israel member, "looks for-
ward to being with my entire
family"
Julie Gershman, 15, of Hunt-
ington Woods, says her "favorite
memories are family dinners with
all my cousins for the holidays.
When we were younger we used
to do plays and skits for our par-
ents and grandparents.
Michael Rasanslcy, 19, of
Farmington Hills, loves "how the
High Holidays bring everyone
together. I have vivid memories
of being at various family mem-
bers' houses and playing football
with all the guys and all of that
great stuff." Steve Misuraca of
Huntington Woods, a Duke
University freshman, agrees.
"Being with my entire family —
I just love it."
