DIVORCE
Jewish law permits divorce and does
not require a "reason" for divorce.
H owever, a get or writ of divorce, must
P e given to the wife by her husband. A
Ipet is a standard document written by a
Gofer or scribe. A bet din, rabbinical
court of three rabbis, convenes and the
Called kiddushin in Hebrew, from the word
kadosh or holy, a Jewish wedding is a
simcha and the bride and groom are
bommanded to rejoice. A Jewish wedding
takes place under a chuppa, or wedding
,anopy, that symbolizes the couple's
ewish home.The couple exchanges rings;
he groom gives his bride a ketuba, or
marriage contract, that outlines his

a festive meal, with dancing and rejoicing,
follows the ceremony. Although a Jewish
L edding need not take place in a
L ynagogue or temple, most Jewish couples
turn to a rabbi for the ceremony.
