Carl Riseman, president; Aleksander Chernyak, cantorial soloist Honorable Menschen Southfield S he came in to work on the JARC archives and stayed to take over the resource center and library after her pred- ecessor became ill. It's been 6 1/2 years and May still is volunteer- ing once a week to catalog fresh material and to keep the library organized and accessible to JARC staff and clients. "What started as a wish to contribute has become very important to me." The work comes naturally to May, former librarian at Schoenhals Elementary School in Southfield, who retired in 1992. "I wanted to use my experience and this is a very worthwhile organization." May also serves as co-president of the Sholem Aleichim Institute, a cultural/social organization with a secular Jewish focus and a Yiddish orientation, and participates in the Brandeis University book sales.
