"If you have a blessing,
you spread it around.
I want kids to know that."

H

e's a trial lawyer used to
fighting malpractice
suits. But once a month
since 1991, Buzz has fought
against poverty and prejudice by
taking groups of children and
parents from Temple Beth El to
the Coalition on Temporary
Shelter (COTS) in Detroit.
There they prepare and serve
lunch to between 70 and 140
people seeking shelter. The
monthly trips to COTS expose
suburban kids, including Buzz's
five children, to how others
sometimes are forced to live.
"Going to COTS shows kids
that 'there but for the grace of
God go I,' Buzz says. "People
aren't poor on purpose. The
more charity work children are
exposed to, the more it makes a
difference in their own lives."
Turner also serves on the
board of Don Bosco Hall, a
Detroit boys' home.
