Daddy Dearest

Conductor and musical director
Zubin Mehta has admitted that he is
the father of an 8-year-old illegitimate
Israeli boy.
An interviewer for the London
Sunday Telegraph last week mentioned
rumors that Zubin Mehta had "a
smattering of illegitimate children
from various affairs" during the course
of his 30-year marriage to former
actress Nancy Kovack.
When pressed on reports of his
extramarital children, Mehta admitted:
"There is a child in Israel."

Reconstructionist
Readings

As they gather for the High Holidays
this year, Reconstructionist Jews will be
following a new prayer book.
According to spokespersons for the
Jewish Reconstructionist Federation, the
1,275-page Machzor's "user-friendly and
inclusive" liturgy balances "deep respect
for 3,000 years of Jewish tradition and
the honest struggles which contempo-
rary Jews have with that tradition."
