Bar/Bat Mitzvah Sarah Lynn Combs celebrated her bat mitzvah recently at Congregation Beit Kodesh in Livonia. Participating in the Friday night ser- vice with Sarah were, president of the synagogue, Jeff Kirsch and a past president, Milton Goldman. Sarah's parents, Kenneth and Darlene Combs, were proud of their daughter and her brother Matthew. Grandmother Combs from Ozark, Ark., attended as did grandparents Tommy and Ilene Salmons of Livonia and other relatives and friends. Services were followed by a kiddush hosted by Anita Catrell, president of the sisterhood, and Beatrice Breshgold. Sarah participates in basketball and the school choir at Clarenceville Middle School in Livonia. After school and on weekends she did corn- munity service as a member of the Disabled American Veterans Jr. Auxiliary and she attended the 1999 state convention in Lansing. Kara Davey, daughter of Lynn and Bill Davey of Huntington Woods, granddaughter of Fay and Jerry Jacobs of Farmington Hills and Jose and Bill Davey of Warren, and sister of Erin, will become a bat mitzvah on Friday, Sept. 3, at Temple Emanu-El. Kara is an honor student at Norup Middle school in Oak Park. She enjoys many sports especially precision skating and swimming. Kara skates with the Fraser Eclipse Precision Skating team and swims with the YPAC and Hurricane swim teams. Her skating team won the national gold medal in 1 998 and the silver medal in 1999. Kara won the bronze medal this summer for her 50-meter breast stroke at the NSSL Championship Meet. Kara also plays the piano and oboe. For her mitzvah project, Kara vol- unteered at Menorah House and the Oak Park Senior Center.
