Detroit Jazz Festival, which runs Sept. 2-6 at Hart
Plaza, come alive in the pages of HoWard Mandel's
just released book, Future Jazz (Oxford 'University
Press). Here you'll meet such greats as Dave Brubeck,
Yusef Lateef and Joey DeFrancesco.
Another gifted artist featured is Michigan native
Geri Allen, who Mandel describes as an "elegant"
pianist, possessing "the deftness, flexibility and
devotion to the cultivation of musical skills
found in jazz's greatest exemplars."
Allen is scheduled to perform 2:45 p.m.
Sunday, Sept. 5, on the Ford/AirTouch
