RETIREMENT COMMUNITY

Brunch in the Sara and Irving Mahler Dining Facility.

Rosenstein said her "aunt and uncle
would have been, very proud, with a
warm feeling of belonging to the
Jewish community."
Dr. David Harold, FAS president,
looked around at the much-appreci-
ated new facilities and stressed how
they enhance the skills and religious
experiences that "enrich the campers'
lives and remain in their hearts."
. Harvey Finkelberg, the camp's exec-
utive director, cited Camp Maas as
'a Jewish camp for Jewish children,
rich in tradition, and upgraded for
changing the lives of 2,000 children,
every summer, providing them with
Jewish experiences and identity." .
Dr. Harold introduced the 1999-
2000 officers and board of directors,
as well as a new emeritus advisory
board. He named as chairman

Edward Lumberg, FAS' immediate
past president.
Noting the camp's growth, Rick
Goren, director of development for
Tamarack Camps, praised the fore-
sight of Irwin Shaw, past Fresh Air
Society executive, and his board.
Shaw spoke of the days when the
former Tamarack site in Brighton
was becoming crowded, no longer
situated in a country area. Under
Shaw's leadership, FAS bought the
more-secluded Ortonville site, dis-
covered in the 1950s, with "a lot of
vision for the future," he said. With
the hope of starting small and
adding residential villages as it
became financially possible, Shaw
characterized the recent additions as
a wonderful tribute to the staff and
),
board of the camp. I I
