hen Herb Kaufman's daughters Ilene and Patty were old enough to type, they

hand typed yahrzeit notices and envelopes on an IBM Selectric typewriter.

Knowing Ira Kaufman's great grandson Chad and great granddaughter Stephanie were

monitoring the chapel's Web site and answering e-mail inquires, we don't have to imagine

the smile on Ira's face, we just look

at Grandpa Herbie.

DR. HARRY H. SAND, 95, of Southfield,
died Aug. 3.
Dr. Sand was an eye, ear, nose and
throat physician who graduated from
Marquette University Medical School.
He was a member of Temple Beth El,
the American Medical Association,
Michigan Ophthalmological Society and
the Zionist Organization of America.
Dr. Sand is survived by his sons,
Donald Sand of California, Jay Sand of
Bloomfield Hills; daughter and son-in-
law Fayclare and Robert Blau of
Bloomfield Hills; grandchildren David
and Risa Blau, Randy and Michelle
Blau, Michelle Sand, Laura and Daniel
Friedman; great-grandson Evan
Friedman.
He was the beloved husband of the
late Mildred Sand.
Interment at Beth El Memorial Park.

ROSE L. SLOTNICK, 84, of Oak Park,
died August 10.
She is survived by her daughter,
Marie Ann Slotnick of Pleasant Ridge;
nieces Toby Taylor, Margie Graff,
Nanette Prog, Sonia Grodman.
She was the beloved wife of the late
Harry M. Slotnick.
Graveside services were at the
Hebrew Memorial Park. Contributions
may be made to the Rose Cancer Center
c/o William Beaumont Hospital or to a
charity of one's choice. Arrangements by
Dorfman Funeral Direction.

JUNE SONYA STEIN, 79, of
Bloomfield Hills, died Aug. 4.
Mrs. Stein was an active district-level
volunteer for Girl Scouts of America
and a volunteer at Henry Ford Hospital,
Harper Hospital and Northridge
Hospital in Ft. Lauderdale, Fla. She was
a support person for people who had
polymiocitis (which she previously had).
She was a member of Temple Israel,
Congregation Shaarey Zedek and
Hadassah. For many years she was a
food and entertainment chairperson at
Knollwood Country Club.
Mrs. Stein is survived by her son,
Kenneth Stein of Florida; daughter and
son-in-law Dianne and John Politzer of
West Bloomfield; grandchildren Brian
Katz and Eric Katz; stepgrandchildren
Johanna Politzer and Samantha Politzer;
sister Rita Dunitz of Southfield.
Mrs. Stein was the beloved wife of
the late Leonard Stein.
Interment at Clover Hill Park
Cemetery. Contributions may be made
to the American Cancer Society and
Camp Simcha. Arrangements by Ira
Kaufman Chapel.

HERMAN TUCKER, 89, of Phoenix,
died Aug 7. Mr.Tucker was a bar owner
and a World War II Army veteran.
He is survived by his daughters and
sons-in-law, Francine and Walter
Filipowicz of Yale, Robbie Bernstein of
Phoenix and Sheila Bernstein of Phoenix;
granddaughter Marcie Tina.
He was the beloved husband of the late
Minnie Tucker.
Interment at Nusach H'ari Cemetery.
Contributions may be made to the
Hospice of the Valley, 1510 E. Flower St.,
Phoenix, AZ 85014. Arrangements by Ira
Kaufman Chapel.

MAX WIENER, 74, of Oak Park, died
August 7.
Mr. Wiener learned his trade as a bread
baker in his hometown of Budapest,
Hungary. A Holocaust survivor, he came
to America in 1949 and worked as a
Jewish bread baker for 30 years, initially,
for 10 years at Epstein Bakery on Dexter
and then for 20 years at Miami Bakery of
Southfield. In 1980, he became the busi-
ness agent for Local 78 of the Bakers
Union, until his retirement in 1987.
He is survived by his wife, Pola
Wiener; sons and daughter-in-law Jack
Wiener of Oak Park, David and Suzi
Wiener of Oak Park; daughter and son-in-
law Ellen and Sanford Greenberg of Oak
Park; grandchildren Stefani and Michele
Wiener and Hilary Greenberg.
Contributions may be made to the
Holocaust Memorial Center of West
Bloomfield, the Israel Cancer Society or to
a charity of one's choice. Interment at
Hebrew Memorial Park. Services and
arrangements by Hebrew Memorial
Chapel.

ual will be published. We reserve the

name and address. Do not write on
