Federation Honors
Marion Freedman

Marion Freedman, director of the
Neighborhood Project, will receive
the Jewish Federation of
Metropolitan Detroit's fourth
William Avrunin Fellowship in
Continuing Professional Education.
The award,
which includes
a stipend, rec-
ognizes the
partnership
between the
two arms of
Federation, lay
and profession-
al, and the role
communal
workers play in
Mario 71 Freedman
strengthening
the ur community.
Freedman serves on the Jewish
News Advisory Committee, the
board of the Oak Park Business and
Education Alliance and the Detroit
Medical Center Women ' s Advisory
Committee. She recently chaired the
Berkley Community Schools
Advisory Committee.
Freedman is president of Temple
Beth El and has worked with the
Neighborhood Project for nearly 12
years.
The Neighborhood Project, a pro-
gram of Federation, seeks to enhance
the vitality of the Jewish community
in Oak Park and Southfield by offer-
ing interest-free loans and home-
improvement loans, sponsoring spe-
cial events and fostering communi-
ty-building activities.

United Way Funds
Go To JVS

Jewish Vocational Service received
$419,119 from United Way
Community Services to provide a
variety of career development pro-
grams and employment services.
The funds were raised during
United Way's Torch Drive, which
provides allocations to 130 health
and human service agencies in
Wayne, Oakland and Macomb
counties. "JVS is very appreciative of
this long standing partnership with
United Way," said JVS executive
director Barbara Nurenberg.
JVS is a non-profit, non-sectarian
agency serving job seekers and
employers in metropolitan Detroit..
Last year, JVS served 12,782 people.,_,
