Two days later, these two and his Piccadilly Delicatessen would have its public opening. The Raleigh House became America's largest pri- vate catering firm, a division of Interstate United, the fifth largest food chain in the U.S. "Lieberman's plans to open a 12- story, 300-room Raleigh Hotel never happened. But the new restaurants were opened in a record 10 months' rime, covering an area of 20,000 square feet. The Piccadilly sat 166 and was a Miami-style deli, fully carpeted with covered ceilings, mates' chairs, booths and counterservice. "The Lion's Head, seating about 140, was an actual design transport from the British Isles. It featured a leather and oak bar, separate piano bar and plain carpeting. Back of the long bar hung four authentic, hand-carved oak trophy plaques depicting 19th century wild-game scenes. "The Elizabethan House of Lords dining room sat 156 persons in a plush atmosphere, where patrons could receive French-style service directly at their table. Food was brought in and served from carts. Its menu was eight pages of a la carte gourmet selections, plus a daily table du maison changing menu. Two 600-pound brass chande- liers hung from each end of the spa- cious room. Original hand-woven wall tapestries, depicting French and English scenes, were paneled in the dining room and English Pub. Black and.gold china, and gold flatware graced the dining tables. A special feature of the House of Lords was the English fireplace, discov- ered in London, England, and trans- ported to Southfield. Dating back to 1760, it came from a great 18th-centu- ry mansion. "Milos Cihelka CMC, now retired, was the House of Lords' executive chef. In 1972, he won two gold medals as a member of the U.S. Culinary Olympics Team in Frankfort, Germany.
