Another trio of tenors is coming to
town. At 8 p.m. Tuesday, July 27, The
Irish Tenors, accompanied by the Royal
Philharmonic Orchestra under conduc-
tor Frank MacNamara, take the stage at
the Palace of Auburn Hills in a concert
featuring contemporary and traditional
Irish music, including the world pre-
miere of Riverdance Suite. This is the
first major North American tour for The
Irish Tenors, who earlier this year were
featured on a national PBS broadcast.
Who are, they? John McDermott
grew up the ninth of 12 children and
moved to Canada in the mid-'60s. He
was discovered at age 40, while working
at a Toronto newspaper, after making a
recording of Irish and Scottish songs for
his parents. The Celtic tenor has gone
on to sell millions of records. Anthony
Kearns is an opera-trained lyric tenor
who was discovered when he won
Ireland's "Search for a Tenor" corn-
petition in 1993. He has twice
won the Dermot Trophy for orato-
rio. Ronan Tynan received his first
formal voice training at age 30,
