Synagogue Honors
Rabbi, Cantor

The Isaac Agree Downtown Synagogue
will honor Rabbi Noah M. Gamze and
Cantor Israel I. Idelson at a tribute
dinner 5 p.m. Sunday, Aug. 1, at
Congregation Beth Shalom.
Rabbi Gamze, who has provided
spiritual leadership for almost four
decades, and Cantor Idelson, who has
conducted services for 19 years, will be
recognized by the officers and mem-
bers of the congregation for their dedi-
cation and commitment to the only
Conservative synagogue remaining in
Detroit. The guest speaker will be
David Gad-Hart, executive director,
Jewish Community Council of
Metropolitan Detroit.
The public is invited. The cost is
$72. Dietary laws will be observed.

Professor Edith Covensky will teach
the following classes during the fall
semester at Wayne State University.
Hebrew 1010 (first semester;)
Hebrew 2010 (third semester);
Hebrew 3120 (reading the Bible);
Hebrew 3990 (directed study) are all
open to undergraduate and graduate
students. There is a discount for senior
citizens.
Hebrew 3120 (biblical literature)
will be taught on campus (WSU) and
at the Oakland Extension Center in
Farmington Hills at 12 Mile and
Farmington.

Michigan Jewish War Veterans and
Ladies Auxiliary will host a picnic for
long-term patients at the Battle Creek
VA Hospital on Sunday, July 25.
JWV Chaplain Tom Tannis will
chair the picnic with State
Commander Robert Feldman and
Auxiliary President Shirley Schlussel
overseeing the program. The bus will
leave at 8 a.m. from the JWV
Memorial Home.
