Davida Robinson, member of the
Make-A-Wish Foundation of
Michigan's "Team Alex," says the
group plans to participate in a three-
day, 300-mile marathon, gathering
each evening to hold services. Rabbi
Joseph Krakoff of Congregation
Shaarey Zedek printed an easily
portable, travel version of the service
for Robinson to enable her to con-
tinue to say Kaddish daily for her
mother, who passed away last March.
The team will ride July 30, 31
and Aug. 1 in memory of Alex
Graham, herself a recipient of a wish
granted by the foundation, which
fulfills requests of children suffering
from life-threatening or terminal ill-
nesses. A public service announce-
ment Alex wrote continues to be
aired with the message, "Next time
you see a kid with cancer or even
someone who looks a little different,
try a smile. We could use it."

Robinson says the team, training
in T-shirts that sport a large "happy
face" and the notation, "Ask me
about Alex," rides regularly, in the
rain and even on vacations.
"Thinking about what the kids go
through gears us up for the next
day," she says.
Stephanie Goetz, Make-A-Wish
regional director, says each of the
170 riders entered this year paid
$60, with a request "to try to raise a
minimum of $500 in pledges." The.
hope is to raise $150,000 to provide,
wishes for 30 terminally-ill children's
With a single trophy presented
yearly to the team raising the most
donations, Team Alex, which strives
to win it for Alex Graham's parents,
now has a slight lead.
Riding in northern Michigan, the
team, more than half of whom will
bike on tandems, and three who are
under 18, will end each strenuous
day in prayer; with a special reading
recited in memory of Graham.
