uly 7 marked the last Wednesday of summer school for Yeshiva Beth
Yehudah first-graders. But the focus was much more on summer than
it was on school.
After participating in morning services in their Southfield classroom,
the 30 students of Rabbis Yehudah Kaplan and Yerachmiel Rabin piled into
cars for a day of food, fun and camaraderie.
Rabbi Rabin said the two teachers alternate offering their homes for an end-
of-the-year siyum (conclusion of a learning session). The group celebrated the
completion of three earshot (chapters) of
the Chumash (the five books of Moses.)
Rabbi Rabin's wife Yaffa helped host
the barbecue party, which included hot
a
dogs, french fries and play time.
With most of the students entering
first grade with just beginning reading
Yeshiva Beth
skills, Rabbi Rabin says, "This is a cele-
Yehudah students
bration of their great accomplishments,"
and teachers celebrate
adding, "It's also nice for the kids to feel
that they are close to their rebbes." LJ
