It is difficult to improve on a legend
... But this is what Chick and Geoffrey
seem to have done with their additions
and customer care.
They both believe in the concept of
quality with modifications to bring into
the present and the new millennium ...
Essentially, their Gratiot Joe Muer's
influence has provided a similar pleasant
dining experience on Southfield Road.
IT WAS LIKE this before ... A sign
that read, "Mike Larco coming" ... But
this time could be the real thing ... at
Envoy Cafe's former site in Simsbury
Plaza, 14 Mile and Farmington roads
in West Bloomfield.
Last time, a short while back, it was
supposed to be a given, but Mike Larco
and Envoy owner, Larry Loberman,
couldn't get together on a final deal.
Now, except for young Mike him-
self, the main players have changed ...
This time, it's Sam Frankel, owner of
Simsbury Plaza, seemingly calling the
shots instead of Larry.
If a happening, the Mike Larco
Italian restaurant will take over both
the space of the former Envoy and next
door.
WITH THE resurgence of kosher
dining in the metropolitan Detroit
area, the five booths (four 4-seaters
and one 2-seater) now at Unique
Kosher Carry-Out and Catering on
Greenfield, between Nine and 10 Mile
in Oak Park, come in handy for the
many who want to enjoy Rita Jerome's
food then and there.
People order from the kosher variety
cooked up by Rita and her staff ... and
if necessary, have it warmed up after
being removed from the case ... Folks
on hand when the dishes come from
the kitchen, take it hot to their booths.
The homemade goodness of Unique
Kosher Carry-Out, now with five
booths for seating, includes cold soups
like strawberry and cherry gazpacho,
potato and borscht.
Also offered are fat-free chili, veggie
burgers, apricot kugel made with fried
eggplant, vegetarian-stuffed cabbage,
baked salmon, meat, turkey and chick-
en loaves, barbecued short ribs, etc.
The 7-day-a-week lunch and dinner
crowd also enjoy kosher corned beef,
pastrami, turkey breast, etc., as well as
tuna and deli subs ... Combos you
would find in a delicatessen are also on
hand ... Dinty Moore, pastrami and
corned beef combinations, etc.
