At a June 13 ceremony, the Sally
Allan Alexander Beth Jacob School for
Girls in Oak Park graduated 32 inter-
mediate (eighth grade) and 20 high
school girls.
Senior Miriam Brown spoke on
behalf of her class in appreciation of her
school and the educational process as a
foundation for their lives.
The eighth-graders now will attend
classes in the Beth Jacob high school,
while most of the graduating seniors are
packing to attend seminaries in Israel.
The class displayed a $9,000 check,
raised from a snack and drink canteen
and their annual school play, which will
be used for continuing education. The
students also presented their yearbook
dedicated to the memory of school sup-
porter Marvin Berlin.
Nearly 500 guests gathered in the
Berkley High School auditorium to
watch the girls receive their diplomas.
Goldie Silverstein, co-principal of
grades 1-8 (along with Fayge Sperka),
said 11 of the eighth-graders received an
Award for Excellence in Academics for
having maintained a 4.0 average in sev-
enth and eighth grades. With pride, she
noted that this year's graduating class
includes a National Merit Scholarship
finalist, student Gila Miller, as well as 10
Phi Beta Kappa awardees and 10 State
of Michigan Competitive Scholarship
winners.
