Several hundred visitors looked into the 27 informational and hands-on safety booths that filled outdoor tents and a mock-city of home and storefronts inside the Agency for Jewish Education of Metropolitan Detroit in Southfield. In the town, built by students of the Southfield school, actual stop signs, on loan from a construction company, became part of an educa- tional playtime. Children's Hospital of Michigan in Detroit sold more than 80 safety helmets, with pro- ceeds going to its trauma unit. In addition, fingerprinting of children was avail- able, a raffle offered fire extinguishers and an escape ladder as prizes, and a seatbelt simulator demonstrated the impact of a five-mile-an-hour abrupt stop.
