A look at theJewish odyssey of Shabtai Zisel ben
Avraham v'Rachel Rivka (a.k.a. Bob Dylan).
n his mumbling way, Bob
Dylan has been a spokesman
for his Jewish generation, too.
Just as he recombined every
permutation of folk and blues and
poetry and rock 'n roll, just as he
reinvented himself from album to
album and decade to decade, so too ,
with his Jewish self. Bar mitzvah boy
and civil rights activist, born-again
Christian and Lubavitcher, occa-
sional Zionist and skeptic of orga-
nized religion, he has traced an arc
of Jewish identity that has touched
on nearly every American Jewish
possibility of the past 35 years.
