fault. Personal hygiene is hard to dictate
and hard to monitor," Krinn said.
"People are kind of queasy about talking
to people about personal hygiene.
"Are you going to have shower
police?"
Krinn said the department received
poor water samples on-and-off begin-
ning in January from the JCC.
Postcards with test results are automati-
cally sent to the facility; when two or
more postcards are sent in a row, a
county sanitarian is notified. In the case
of a spa, the remedy is to drain then
refill. County records show that in the
past two months, five phone calls and
two field visits were made to the JCC.

membership campaign, gaining 250 new
members for the health club. As one of

Center undergoes a major renovation
that will include relocation of the
men's and women's health clubs.
Sorkin said he hoped the test-result
news would not harm fund-raising for
the renovation.
The swimming pools have comput-
ers that check the water and feed
chemicals as needed. Sorkin said the
pools are cleaned 24 hours a day by
the chemical and filter system.
The outdoor swimming pool at
Kahn was closed early last year because
untreated tap water was leaking into
the pool and clouding the water. It
cost $200,000 to repair the system.
In brief interviews Wednesday
morning, some JCC members said
they never used the pools anyway.
Others said they were not concerned
by the report.
"They change the water every night <
and put chemicals in," said Albert
Goldberg of Farmington Hills.
"People just have to rinse off better
before getting in
