golfers were at both Tam O'Shanter
and Franklin Hills Country Clubs ...
But the overflow banquet was again
held at Tarn, whose patio and grass
were the site for stations of food pre-
pared by fine executive chef Tim Cikra
and his good kitchen staff.
Rack of lamb, coconut shrimp,
sauteed shrimp, salmon, gourmet
pizza, Caesar salad, pasta, sauteed
chicken and much more.
People got a kick out of seeing
Harold Finegood ... Few could remem-
ber him wearing a suit and tie ... and
matching, yet ... Mort Weisling with his
Lt. Columbo impression ... Bob
Russman had jokes to tell ... No mistak-
ing Murray Hozman ... He was the one
with that good-looking fuchsia sports
jacket ... Dave Matz a two-fisted food
carrier ... Joe Dresner, too ... Irving Lash
going way back with tales of yesteryears.
Inside was theater seating except for
two tables in front with sports celebri-
ties, committee members, and their
families ... Bidding was on Ted
Williams and Joe Namath memorabilia
... Richard Barnett's $2,100 wasn't
enough for a Williams jersey ... $2,200
took it ... Richard Roth, president of
the host Michigan Jewish Sports
Foundation, was the evening's big bid-
der: $4,100 for a rare color photo blow-
up of Ted Williams and Babe Ruth.
Dr. Harvey Saperstein, retired podi-
atrist, has been attending Detroit
Tigers Fantasy Camp at Lakeland,
Fla., since it started in 1984 ... 18 of
them, with some having two sessions
in a year ... His three sons, Drs.
Glenn, Guy and Greg, also attended
fantasy camp with Harvey this year.
When Gary Sallen, outing co-chair-
man with Dan Passman, brought out
the beautiful "can't miss" set of golf
clubs and presented them to emcee
Dick "Mr. Dependable" Schaap,
ESPN sport commentator, Dick shook
his head slowly from side to side and
quietly said, "You've seen me play."
If you were there and found George
Blum's camera case and golfing picture
taken of his group, call him at (248)
354-0778 ... Harvey Wolfe was luckier
... After telling Tam receptionist Elaine
Ososki that if anyone turned in his bag
with cell phone and eight baseballs, to
call him ... Harvey found it at the affair,
with only four of the balls missing.
