information-packed Web
site. Modestly dubbed the "Cyber
Home of Torah," the attractive site
does the near-impossible: it crams
much of the OU's wide-ranging
program into a single, easy-to-use
homepage.
The site opens with a kind of
magazine format listing a handful of
special features — this week, an
introduction to the new head of the
national Conference of Synagogue
Youth, an essay on whether Israel
needs a constitution and a link to
OU's "Employment Hotline."
Another button will give you access
to recent statements by the group's
Institute for Public Affairs, its political
action arm.
Wherever you go on the OU site,
there are index tabs along the left side
that point you toward key features of
the site — including information on
kashrut, descriptions of OU programs,
a directory of Orthodox synagogues
around the world and a big online
learning section — "the largest dvar
Torah (Torah lesson) resource in
cyberspace," it claims.
There's also a directory of Jewish
holidays with extensive materials on
each, from simplified explanations
— just the thing for visitors who

Across the top of every page are
other tabs providing quick access to
site index, help and a search function.
With all this content, you'd expect
the OU site to be slow loading.
Wrong. It's nimble, as well as orga-
nized.
One complaint: a lack of links to
other sites in the Jewish world. But
never mind: the OU homepage is a
well-designed, effective homepage th at
should prove useful to both Orthodox
and non-Orthodox visitors.
