Joshua Kimmel leads the service, while Rabbi Hershel Klainberg oversees.

his mother as a Danto volunteer.
Remembering him as a graduate of
Hillel Day School of Metropolitan
Detroit in Farmington Hills, the
rabbi asked him to lead the June 13
service for the 40 residents who
attended.
Sandy Boykansky, regional com-
munity service representative for the
Health Care and Retirement
Corporation, owners of Danto,
established the program. Seeking to
make it ongoing, she already has
commitments from Adat Shalom
Synagogue, Congregation B'nai
Moshe and the Isaac Agree
Downtown Synagogue to lead future
services; she plans to contact others.
Boykansky said the inclusion of
different synagogue groups each

month would bring residents "a part
of what their life used to be back t
them." She hopes to offer a sense of
being in a community setting, as
well as the nostalgia of being with
members from their own congrega-
tions."
"Every shul contacted about par-
ticipating responded yes, without
hesitation," she said.
Each participating synagogue
brings its own prayer books.
Kimmel "felt proud, knowing that
the senior citizens were really
happy." He recommends that other
youth take part when it comes time
for their synagogue to be involved in
the minyan, noting that waking up
early on a Sunday morning "was
completely worth it." fl
