Steve is not there.
At the door on evenings is hostess
Esther Tuchklaper, gracious and
pleasant.
After a person enters La Difference,
on his or her left is a ritual washing
stand ... It has a double-handled wash-
ing cup that is traditionally used prior
to breaking bread ... The reason for
using copper is to commemorate the
ritual washing by the priests in the
Temple when bowls were made of cop-
per ... Women of the community
donated their mirrors made of copper
to the Temple for this purpose.
Milk products served at La
Difference are Cholev Yisroel ... mean-
ing that the milk used has been
under supervision from the time the
cow was milked.
Hungry people coming to La
Difference for dinner don't stay that
way long ... Once they are seated,
along comes French bread, a
caramelized onion spread and a sam-
pling of the day.
Just about everything is made from
scratch at La Difference ... including
its own desserts ... All the salmon is
herring-fed at an Atlantic farm in
Maine ... This gives it as much of the
beneficial Omega 3 as possible ...
Herring-fed salmon is said to reduce
cholesterol levels.
A silver-plated, elegantly designed
coffee server, the clever creation of
Paul, and tall stemmed water glasses
are class attractions.
Desserts include a delicious array of
light fluffy cheesecakes, layered choco-
late tortes and other yummy delights
... plus daily pastry selections.
Youngsters to age 4 are charged $1
per year to eat at La Difference ... And
adults don't have to be a child to eat
dinner from its Children's Menu ...
