r. Marc Herschfus, a gas-
troenterologist, signed up to
treat his patients at Sinai
Hospital two years ago. Six

that from now on
he would have to
care for them at a
consolidated
Sinai-Grace
Hospital.
The six-block
move down
Outer Drive, he
said happily, has been smooth. Citing
top-of-the-line equipment and an
accommodating ancillary staff within
renovated space at what had been
Grace, he said, "Everyone has helped
us fit into the system."

Teresa Zarza, a clinical manager,
felt the same. She said that her oncol-
ogy patients who made the move in
May, had been more apprehensive
than were some of the nurses, but
once they saw familiar faces in the
hallways, it's worked out.
"It feels a little scary, but it's exciting,"
Zarza said.
"Starting at
ground level to
build something
of the highest
quality is a great
opportunity."
Herschfus
and Zarza were
part of a crowd of 150 on hand
Tuesday for an open house that offi-
cially opened the renovated facility.
Dr. Arthur Porter, president and
chief executive officer of the hospital's
owner, Detroit Medical Center, took
advantage of the moment to declare
that "the biggest problems are behind
us." Saying the consolidation is reduc-
ing what had been a $106 million
