arate hospitals, Porter asserted that
Sinai physicians and staff are recover-
ing from their distress-at losing the
institution created to serve Jewish
patients and doctors 46 years ago.
With the merged facility, he said,
" now we have the opportunity to
build the finest-quality services in
northwest Detroit, to bring back our
physicians, and bring back our patient
load."
Porter said that because many
staffers left the hospitals voluntarily,
he would not have to impose signifi-
cant staff layoffs, especially in the
patient care areas.
"We have seen attrition of 200
individuals, and this has helped us to
bring the number of staff down to a
volume that could manage the
patients within one geographic sire,"
he said. "We do not expect to have
any layoffs within patient care areas."
Porter also said that he will "work
aggressively" with the 1,885 Sinai-
Grace physicians, many of them in
private practice.
"We have been working with our
physicians, having support for their
needs, ensuring that they know when
their operating room time would be,
location would be, involving them
with the consolidation," he said.
