Moving to THE FOUNTAINS AT FRANKLIN means

$400 per month for one half-hour
session per week. Average hourly fees
can range from $100 to $200, and
corporate coaching prices are substan-
tially higher.
According to Demp, time manage-
ment is probably the No. 1 issue that
working people want to discuss with
their coach. "Many people profess to
manage their time, but find them-
selves on the short end of the stop
watch," he said. "A primary reason for
this is that people become products of
their own success and are often reluc-
tant to adopt new and different ways
to accomplish their goals."
A common complaint from a com-
pany manager: "I am constantly inter-
rupted; my time is not my own."
Demp's solution: Schedule a meeting
with yourself. You'll need to guard
your time more carefully and actually
plan blocks of time to accomplish
your priority projects. Close your
office door; let phone calls go to voice
mail; have an assistant protect your
time,-and, most importantly, learn to
use the word "no."
Complaint: "I have too much to
Demp's solution: Focus on what
you love to do and what yOu are great
at, then delegate the rest. When you
are able to consistently focus on your
highest skill level and remain focused
in this area, you generate a momen-
tum that increases good results. When
you are constantly bouncing around
in too many areas, you reduce the
momentum and overall effectiveness.
Demp warns businesses to watch
out for common ruts: Avoid reverting
to old behaviors when confronted
with a new problem or issue; try to
adopt an entirely new approach.
On succession planning, when a
family business is passed from genera-
tion to generation, Demp advises peo-
ple not to let the business founder or
previous owner Foil,.•e too tight a grip on
the next generation of owners.
The "survivor syndrome" may
occur when an organization restruc-
tures its staff and some people may
feel guilty because they survived cost-
cutting measures, or they are con-
cerned they are next in line to lose
their jobs. Demp says these employees
need to be re-energized so they will
remain productive.
Goldsmith added, "One way to
look at it is for everyone — whether
he or she is an individual professional
or works for a large. company — to
be considered as self-employed. Your
