Bar/Bat Mitzvah Zachary Glazier will become a bar mitzvah on Saturday, June 12, at Congregation Shaarey Zedek B'nai Israel. Zachary will read from the Torah, chant the maftir and haftorah and lead the congregation in the repetition of the Musaf service. Zachary's brother Michael Glazier will lead the chanting of Ashrei and the concluding prayers. Zachary is a seventh grader at Orchard Lake Middle School in West Bloomfield and a student at the Shaarey Zedek Hebrew school, where he intends to continue his Hebrew education. Zachary is on the student council at OLMS, is active in Kadima-USY and in many sports; he spend his summers at Camp Ramah Canada. Zachary worked on numer- ous mitzvah projects, two of which were making dolls for Hadassah Hospital and helping with younger children at the Shaarey Zedek Hebrew school. Zachary is the son of Manny and Sandy Glazier, the grandson of Adele and the late Cyril Silver, Bess and Moishe Glazier, and the great-grand- child of Fannie and the late Bernardo Luchtan. Katie Lynn Fried will be called to the Torah as a bat mitzvah on Friday, June 11 at Temple Kol Ami. She is the daughter of Ellen and Paul Fried, sister of Julie and grand- daughter of Marsha and Norman Ross. Katie is also the granddaughter of the late Sylvia and Jacob Seidman and the late Seymour Fried. Katie is a student at O.E. Dunckel Middle School in Farmington Hills, where she enjoys playing the violin in the concert orchestra and singing in the seventh-grade choir. Katie's inter- ests also include dancing, playing the piano, reading and basketball. Katie's mitzvah projects included playing the violin for senior citizens at the Haworth Center in Farmington Hills, volunteering at the Danto Health Care Center, participating in the Housing the Homeless project at Kol Ami and working with children in the Daniel Sobel Friendship Circle. Brett Lee Turner will be called to the Torah as a bar mitzvah on Saturday, June 12, at a Havdala service at Temple Beth El. Brett is the son of Susan and Lee (Buzz) Turner, brother of Brooke, Brittany, Breanne and Brenna. Brett helped feed the homeless at COTS in Detroit for his mitzvah project. He is a seventh-grade student at West Hills Middle School in Bloomfield Hills. He is involved in many sports; he is a goalie for hockey, plays basketball, golf, football and is a wrestler. He also enjoys karate, in-line skating, and snow and water skiing. Justin Aaron Myers will be called to the Torah as a bar mitzvah at Temple Israel on Friday, June 11. He is the son of Denise and Carl Myers, brother of Jonathon and grand- child of Nancy and Marty Myers and Nicholas Yiataganas. A student at Orchard Lake Middle School in West Bloomfield, Justin is interested in snowboarding, hockey, modeling and acting, computers, bas- ketball, golf, wrestling and magic tricks. His most meaningful mitzvah project involved feeding the guests when Temple Israel housed the homeless. Jeremy Ian Zaks will become a bar mitzvah on Friday, June 11, at Temple Israel. He is the son of Karen and Larry Zaks, brother of Matthew and grand- son of Diane and Harry Posar and Sylvia Zaks. He is also the grandchild of the late Irving Zaks. A West Bloomfield Orchard Lake Middle School student, Jeremy enjoys basketball, football, mountain biking, hockey and comput- ers. He found it particularly meaningful to volunteer at the Fleischmann Residence; he also assisted at Yad Ezra and donated to the Michigan Humane Society and to the Evan Shapiro Fund for the Fight Against Cancer.
