And the Shul, a West Bloomfield spiritual center, is offering a 41/2-hour search for the answer. The seminar, co-sponsored by the Jewish Community Center of Metropolitan Detroit, will be • held noon Sunday; June 27, at the D. Dan & Betty Kahn JCC in West Bloomfield. With Rabbi Yehuda discussions and Sherntov exercises dealing with issues of spirituality and God, the seminar aims to help deepen spiritual awareness and enrich everyday life, through the ancient teachings of Kabbala (Jewish mysticism). The seminar presents life-issues as steps of a mountain to climb. With a physical display of a mountain, partici- pants look for answers to spiritual mean- ing and purpose by metaphorically climbing the mountain. Steps in the climb to the top correspond to five levels of the soul. Participants become part of the teaching process, as they interact in role- playing activities and games. Concluding the seminar is a medita- tion session, giving participants an opportunity to concentrate on applying the newfound knowledge to their own lives and to the people in them. The Sind's objective is to make Judaism more accessible and relevant to Jews at all levels, offering Shabbat ser- vices, holiday workshops and classes for men, women and children. Chasidic Rabbi Yehuda Shemtov of Yardley, Pa., who has spent more than 20 years researching and studying Jewish spirituality, will present the seminar. Striving to reach out by teaching Torah to Jews from all and no religious back- grounds, he has traveled with his semi- nar throughout the country. For information on the seminar, call Tay Shemtov, program director of the Shul at (877) INWARD-6 or access their Web site at: vvvvw.inwardbound.org A charge of $50 will include the sem- inar, text, continuing lecture series, addi- tional reading material and access to a members-only Web site. fl
