The success of this campaign can be seen in the over- whelming electoral victory of Ehud Barak. As pointed out by Molly Resnick, president of MATCKH, there has been no attempt on the part of the Palestinian Authority to humanize the Jews. Just the opposite. You speak of "repressive actions by Israeli soldiers." The only repressive actions taken in the last few years by the Israeli army have been directed against the Jews that live in Gaza and the West Bank, not the Arabs. These actions included disarming the Jewish settlers, which resulted in the deaths of Dov Drivan and Harel Nun, among others. The Israeli army has also carried out a regime of strict enforcement of minutiae of the law directed against only the Jews of Hebron and not the Arabs. What more do you want from Israel? Rabbi Edo Elba wrote a paper that he stated was for study and debate only, not a guide for action, which was dealing with killing the enemy in wartime. For this "crime," the Israeli authorities imprisoned him for two years on a charge of incitement. Yet Muslim religious leaders have called daily for the slaughter of Jews without response from Jewish or Arab authori- ties. Many years ago, the great Jewish thinker and writer Maurice Samuel had a debate with a rabbi from the anti-Zionist American Council for Judaism. In exasperation, the rabbi asked Samuel, "How would you feel if This letter is in response to your e di- you were an Arab?" Samuel replied, torials ("Pipe Dream Or Pipe Bomb?" I think Jewish been a deliberate campaign by the people everywhere should exercise that Israeli educational establishment and school textbooks, television program- ming, etc. So far, so good. Then they proceeded to intimate that Israel must do this as well. Excuse me! Has anyone document- ed any official statements - as in schoolbooks or on children's television - of Israeli government-sanctioned hatred? Has there ever been any offi- cial praise by any Jewish head of state for terrorists and terrorism? Where does this insane urge to equate Israeli policy with-Arab propaganda come from? If we wish to make comparisons, how about this one: Israel is included in the New York Times list of the humanitarian countries accepting (Muslim) refugees from Kosovo; not one (Muslim) Arab nation is listed. Or perhaps we should discuss how safe an Israeli might feel while walking down a street in Gaza, as opposed to how safe an Arab might feel while walking through Jerusalem. Let's do a reality check, please. And let's stop accepting the lies generated and trumpeted by our enemies from both within and without. Let's stop prefacing them by some small truths that make us seem so evenhanded in the eyes of the world and which make these lies so respectable and accepted.
